Cold Reading To Connect
Gypsies, fortune tellers, mind readers all do the same thing when they “get inside your head”, cold read and warm read. Warm reading is looking at the persons reactions to things that you say and changing the direction of your speech with their reactions. Cold reading is using statistics which most of the population can relate to, and try to personalize it to you. These methods are really powerful and get people to relate their lives to what you’ve written and builds rapport, and ultimately sales.
Perhaps in the opening story for a sales letter, you will through out a bunch of statistics and hope that your reader falls within range:
- You hate it when people don’t understand you
- You don’t like being held back
- You always want to understand what you can’t
Those are just three cold reading statements which I made up (they aren’t that good seeing as I’m not a professional). But if you place the lines corrects and through in a few embedded commands, this can lead to a very powerful sales letter. If people connect to you, they will be more likely to give their money to you.
If you are targeting a certain target group, make even more specific assumptions that the majority would fall under. Your goal is for the reader to say to him/herself, “This guy really knows me and is/was just like me. Is this worked for him, it’ll work for me too!”.
I am about to launch a new website (hopefully short and viral) where the whole basis of the getting people onto the sales page is cold reading. I’ll post my results afterwards.
