Factors Of Your SERP - How To Be #1
There are many things involved in how your website ranks for a certain key phrase and you have to nail them all to get into (and stay at) that number one spot.
Backlink Anchors
This is arguably the most important factor in your search engine rankings. What you want is for the anchor text of all links (from outside and internal pages) to have your key phrase in it. So if you want to rank well for Leather Wallets and your site is called LeatherWallet Depot, have people linking to you as Leather Wallets and not LeatherWalletsDepot
SEO
If your page is not search engine optimized for a specific keyword, you will not be listed in at the top (unless it the phrase is not competitive). Keyword density, keyword placement, keyword weight all effect your SEO score and decide your ranking.
SEBR
This is your search engine bounce rate. Example: People search for “holiday turkey” and your site is listed in the top 10. If they click on your site and after several seconds return back to the search engine, the search engines think, “well this guy didn’t find what he was looking for when he searched for this term… others probably won’t find it helpful either.” so they rank you lower for that keyword. So make sure your bounce rate is low.
Domain Age
The older the domain, the better. You’ll rank better and easier with an older domain.
Domain Creditability
If the domain is a credible source on the search engines, any sub domains or folders will rank better than usual. For example, when you create pages on sites such as blogspot, wordpress.com, or squidoo, they tend to rank better.
These are the top dogs of the SERP game so if you score big, you can bet that you have most, if not all, of these points going for your site.
